I am writing to you about my grandson Jacob W. Knight. He was at a work camp with a church work camp. Last week we had that horrible news that no grandparent or parent wants to hear. Jacob was working a log splittting machine and cut off the tip of his thumb. He is only 12. The woman who wa supervising walked away to take care of aomething else. I am just Sick of what happened. I emailed the Pastor, didn"t get a response, so yesterday I stopped in, didn"t tell him who I was. I discussed the work program and made him think I was interested. I wanted to find out more details. At the end of our conversation I extended my hand and told him who I really was, Jacob Knights" Grandma.
The point I made is that no child should be on a machine like that. Before he knew who I was, he told me about a accident that happened last week, about a boy who was injured on a log spiltting machine,{who was my grandson}. Then I told him, and I started to cry, told him Jacob is going thew alot of pain. Pastor Gary said they are having a meeting at Lake Lacerne, and changing things, because of what happened.
I don"t want this to happen to any other child. He said it happened. I remarked that it cold have been prevented. Let the kids stacjk wood or paint, but not operate machinery,
My daughter has insurance, and the camp does. This is not the point. The pastor said what would you like us to do. I said Jacob needs resitution, for pain and emotional pain. My x-son in law and my daughter would not say anything. But as a grandma I could not hold back. I was not rude, I explained my concerns, and how depressed I fell about this. This should of never happened.
Thank You for reading this. Carol
I would like this to be aired have other parents warned before they send their children to camp. No machinery at work camp. It does not say that on their website, about activities. Jacob has football practice coming up, but I don"t think he will be healed by then. Another thing I am so tired of some people saying it could of been worse, or it happened. No it should of never happened, and it wouldn"t if there was not a log spiltting machine at camp. I take this very serious, as you know , you have children. and they have grandparents. Let no child be injured again. Thank You, Carol Strempler
